Beat the nuggets, in the first round , beat long-standing nemesis Sacramento in seven games at the Target Center. But then Kobe happened. But as I grew up, I minded him less. Eventually, everyone gets a semblance of a career and a path gets laid out before you and you realize how hard it is to get to the top of your profession.
In basketball, just like in real life, nothing is accomplished without hard work. Sure, some people may be smarter, or taller, or faster or more adept at certain things but natural talent means nothing without hard work.
As an adult, you realize the amount of perspiration and perseverance needed to achieve even a modicum of success. Kobe was not only naturally talented, but he also worked harder, tried harder and cared harder than any player in his generation.
As an adult, you respected that and with that respect, some of the hate subsides. As an adult, you also look to the character more and the on-court villainy less. Here was a man that was just getting started on his second act. Hating on Kobe was ultimately just another way to appreciate him. He was there specifically to drop 40 on your favorite player, there specifically to rip the hearts out of the home crowd. He was there to give the people who hated him plenty more to hate, because he knew we were loving every minute of it.
He was the heel because he was so great. There have been just a handful of signature L. The Space Shuttle Endeavor being towed down city streets is another. The day my ode to hate came out, I went to a bar to pay my final respects.
The only thing one could expect was for The Great Kobe to go out firing. But in a performance for the ages, Kobe got hot late, just like he always did, like the haters always dreaded.
He wound up with 60 points and the game winner. Even his swan song was the perfect two-sided coin, leaving plenty for his biggest fans and most resolute haters to devour. He took 50 shots! The game had zero meaning beyond letting Kobe get those shots off! But the Hollywood bar I was at was in a frenzy, and I, a hater, was leading the chants of his name.
Things got so heated one time that Bryant reportedly elbowed Vujacic to the face for no apparent reason. The 6-foot-7 scrappy guard went on win two titles with Bryant in and Bryant does have a history of squabbling with his centers. Mihm assumed the starting 5 position for the Lakers in the post-Shaq era. Those size 22s were certainly hard to fill, as Mihm was pretty underwhelming for LA during his five-year stay.
Kobe reportedly rode Mihm so hard that it practically got him kicked off the team in Chris Mihm? One article even pointed out how Kobe defended Bynum from the press, but still refused to feed him the ball during games. Bynum, on the other hand, once claimed that Kobe stagnated his development with his selfish ways. Its sad that one of the greatest all around players that this league has ever seen is hated by so many fans. Kobe bryant is by far hated by more fans than his fellow players and coaches.
Kobe Bryant is also hated by many because he is perceived as the one responsible for the breakup of the Lakers earlier in the decade, even though it is widely known that an aging Shaq wouldnt take a lesser offer from Dr. Buss, and Karl Malone, and Gary Payton were only there for a short ride.
A lot of people hate Kobe for his so called attitude.
