You can also use a small plate, flat breadboard or platter, etc. Right on down the side and onto the candlestick and layering up just perfectly. The other way I have noticed they drip nicely is when they are simply not placed in the holder straight.

Just a tad off — they will start off with a nice roll that will build when you light them again. Again- protect your tabletop if you are concerned- they will splash right on down to the bottom of the taper holder and your table.

And another reminder of course to mind safety first and always when lighting candles for your table or anywhere. You will notice in my new book- there were a couple of stylings where we had candles on the table- but did not light them- even though they would have made the photo even more amazing. Blush, taupe, grey, white, ivory, Burgundy, even black… the list goes on. I am currently taking orders first come, first serve in my shop. Hold the new candle steady for about 30 seconds until it seems secure. The melted wax from the previous flame will harden and hold your new candle in place. Continue adding candles to create a unique, ever-changing work of art.

If the bottle is special to you for some reason, good enough! The green Mateus bottle illustrated in our project photo shown at the top of the page was picked because of its nice shape and wide shoulders to better support a build up of wax. You may prefer to pick a decorative bottle — a wine bottle with a pleasing shape, a pleasant color, or perhaps with a woven straw bottom like the Chianti bottle candle shown at left.

Who would have thunk it? However, I have tried them, and they do what they purport to do, which is drip layers of brightly colored wax down the glass of your wine bottle holder.
